We have an exciting opportunity here at Bouygues UK for a Technical Director to be based from our Bristol or Cardiff office.
Role purpose
The Technical Director will provide technical and strategic leadership for projects during the bid, Pre-Construction Services Agreement (PCSA) and execution phases. Working collaboratively across disciplines and locations, the postholder will coordinate key functions, maintain strong links with the site teams, manage project risks and costs, and ensure that design quality and product quality remain central to project delivery.
Key responsibilities

- Lead and coordinate, through a matrix structure, the work of the Methods, Estimating, Planning/Programming, Sustainability and Design Management teams during bid and PCSA phases.
- Work closely with the construction and site teams to ensure that technical proposals are practical, buildable, cost-effective and aligned with delivery requirements.
- Support cost control by challenging design and construction solutions, assessing their cost implications and helping maintain alignment with project budgets and commercial objectives.
- Ensure continuity between pre-construction and execution, supporting the effective transfer of design intent, cost estimates and assumptions, technical decisions and project risks to the delivery teams.
- Capture and share lessons learned from estimating and design during the PCSA and execution phases, so that knowledge informs future bids, projects and business practices.
- Promote high standards of design quality and product quality, ensuring that project solutions meet client requirements and applicable standards.
- Ensure that technical proposals are robust, commercially informed and aligned with project requirements and business objectives.
- Embed a strong risk-management approach: identify, assess, communicate and help mitigate technical, design, construction, cost and delivery risks.
- Bring the relevant disciplines together to develop coordinated solutions, resolve issues and support informed decision-making.
- Work closely with teams in London, sharing knowledge and expertise and making effective use of the resources available across BYUK and the wider business.
- Build effective relationships with regional and central stakeholders, including the BYUK Technical Director and Regional Managing Director.
- Promote a team-first culture based on collaboration, accountability, open communication and shared objectives.
