Construction Manager – Sizewell C
Sizewell C is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure and energy projects. The programme will deliver a new 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station in Suffolk, providing reliable low-carbon electricity for approximately six million homes and supporting the UK’s long-term energy security.
We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), supporting construction integration and delivery across the CWA-wide Construction Services function at Sizewell C.
This role will be instrumental in ensuring that construction activities are effectively planned, sequenced, coordinated and prepared for safe execution. Working across construction delivery, engineering, planning, Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), readiness and logistics teams, you will help translate construction strategies into practical and executable delivery plans.
You will play a key role in ensuring that work packages, resources, site logistics and readiness requirements are aligned ahead of construction, supporting efficient mobilisation and the successful start of site activities.
This is an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of a major national infrastructure programme, working within a collaborative alliance environment on one of the UK’s most strategically important energy projects.
The Role
As Construction Manager, you will lead the integration of construction planning, delivery readiness, work packaging and logistics across the CWA-wide Construction Services function.
You will act as a key link between construction strategy and operational delivery, ensuring that construction methodologies, sequencing, resources, logistics arrangements and work package requirements are aligned with programme objectives.
Working closely with delivery teams, engineering, planning, AWP, commercial and logistics functions, you will drive the development and implementation of construction delivery strategies and installation philosophies, ensuring that activities are properly coordinated and ready to proceed.
A key part of the role will be overseeing the development and alignment of Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and Installation Work Packages (IWPs), ensuring that work is appropriately defined, interfaces are understood and the necessary prerequisites are in place before execution.
You will also lead construction readiness reviews, challenge outstanding constraints and coordinate the resolution of issues that could affect safe mobilisation, productivity or programme performance.
The role requires strong leadership, sound construction judgement and the ability to coordinate multiple disciplines to ensure that construction activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with the wider programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of construction planning, delivery readiness, work packaging and logistics activities across Construction Services;
- Translate construction delivery strategies into practical sequencing plans, mobilisation strategies and executable work packages;
- Coordinate construction delivery, engineering, planning, AWP and logistics teams to ensure alignment between programme objectives and operational requirements;
- Drive the development and implementation of construction methodologies, installation philosophies and sequencing strategies;
- Oversee Advanced Work Packaging activities, ensuring that Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and Installation Work Packages (IWPs) are aligned with construction priorities, sequencing and site logistics;
- Ensure that construction scopes, interfaces, responsibilities and execution requirements are clearly defined and communicated to the relevant teams;
- Lead readiness reviews for upcoming construction activities, verifying that required documentation, resources, materials, access arrangements and other prerequisites are in place;
- Coordinate the preparation and review of readiness evidence packs, ensuring that outstanding actions, constraints and risks are identified, assigned and resolved before work starts;
- Oversee construction logistics planning, including site access, material deliveries, laydown areas, lifting arrangements, equipment movements and associated interfaces;
- Work closely with engineering, procurement and supply chain teams to ensure that design information, materials, equipment and specialist resources are available in line with construction requirements;
- Identify and manage construction constraints, risks, interfaces and dependencies, implementing mitigation measures to protect safety, programme and productivity;
- Monitor construction readiness and mobilisation progress, identifying emerging issues and coordinating corrective actions with the relevant stakeholders;
- Produce and review construction readiness reports, dashboards and governance documentation to provide clear visibility of progress, outstanding constraints and delivery risks;
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination meetings and readiness reviews, ensuring that decisions, actions and responsibilities are clearly documented and followed through to completion;
- Promote compliance with project requirements, applicable health and safety legislation, quality standards and environmental obligations;
- Identify opportunities to improve construction sequencing, work packaging, logistics and delivery processes, incorporating lessons learned and best practices; and
- Support the transition from planning and preparation into construction execution, ensuring that delivery teams have the information, resources and arrangements required to start work safely and efficiently.
Essential Skills & Experience
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- Significant experience in construction management, construction integration or delivery coordination within major civil engineering, infrastructure or construction projects;
- Proven experience coordinating construction activities across multidisciplinary teams and complex organisational interfaces;
- A strong understanding of construction methodologies, installation sequencing, mobilisation and site execution requirements;
- Experience in Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), including the coordination of Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and, ideally, Installation Work Packages (IWPs);
- Experience planning and coordinating construction readiness activities, including readiness reviews, mobilisation requirements and the resolution of outstanding constraints;
- A sound understanding of construction logistics, including access planning, materials handling, laydown areas, lifting operations and delivery coordination;
- Demonstrable experience managing interfaces between construction, engineering, planning, procurement, logistics and supply chain teams;
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills, with the ability to align stakeholders around construction priorities and delivery objectives;
- Experience identifying, assessing and managing construction risks, constraints, dependencies and interfaces;
- The ability to develop and implement construction strategies, sequencing plans and readiness reporting processes;
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive timely resolution of issues;
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to engage effectively with project leadership and operational teams;
- A degree-level qualification in civil engineering, construction management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience; and
- The ability to operate effectively within a complex, multidisciplinary and delivery-focused project environment.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly advantageous:
- Nuclear, energy or other highly regulated infrastructure projects;
- Major civil engineering works and large-scale construction programmes;
- Advanced Work Packaging methodologies and the development and implementation of CWPs and IWPs;
- Construction readiness assurance, mobilisation reviews and formal work release processes;
- Development of construction sequencing strategies and installation methodologies;
- Logistics planning for complex construction sites, including material deliveries, lifting operations, access constraints and laydown management;
- Coordination of construction interfaces across multiple contractors, work packages and delivery teams;
- Construction planning and delivery within an alliance, joint venture or collaborative contracting environment;
- Familiarity with project governance, readiness dashboards, progress reporting and performance monitoring;
- Professional membership of a recognised institution, such as CIOB, ICE or APM;
- Chartered status, such as MCIOB or MICE; and
- A recognised project management qualification, such as APM PMQ or PRINCE2.
