About the Role

The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical installation, maintenance, repair, and lifting activities. The role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with approved procedures, technical specifications, quality standards, and project requirements. The Mechanical Foreman will lead mechanical crews, coordinate high-risk lifting operations, manage resources, and support the safe delivery of mechanical works, including Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects where applicable.

Key Responsibilities 

• Supervise and lead mechanical technicians, fitters, riggers, lifting teams, and subcontractors.
• Plan, organize, prioritize, and allocate daily mechanical work activities and manpower.
• Lead mechanical installation, maintenance, repair, alignment, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate and supervise high-risk lifting operations in accordance with approved lifting plans, risk assessments, and site safety procedures.
• Act as, or work closely with, the Crane Appointed Person (CAP) to ensure lifting activities are properly planned, controlled, and executed.
• Verify that cranes, lifting accessories, rigging equipment, and personnel certifications are valid, inspected, and suitable for the planned lift.
• Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, job safety analyses, and lift briefings before work begins.
• Ensure compliance with permit-to-work requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, lifting regulations, and all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Review drawings, lifting plans, method statements, equipment manuals, and work instructions before execution.
• Monitor work progress, productivity, resource requirements, material availability, and equipment utilization.
• Inspect completed mechanical and lifting work to ensure it meets required safety, quality, and operational standards.
• Coordinate with project management, engineering, operations, logistics, planners, and contractors to minimize delays and ensure safe work sequencing.
• Support installation and lifting activities associated with BESS equipment, including battery containers, transformers, inverters, switchgear, and associated mechanical components, where required.
• Identify operational risks, equipment issues, and recurring failures; contribute to corrective actions and continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate records of daily activities, lifting operations, inspections, permits, work orders, personnel attendance, and shift handovers.
• Promote high standards of housekeeping, discipline, safety leadership, and team performance.

Qualifications & Experience 

• Mechanical trade qualification, diploma, or equivalent certification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Fitting, Maintenance, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Mechanical Foreman in industrial, construction, energy, infrastructure, or heavy mechanical environments.
• Demonstrated experience in supervising mechanical installation, maintenance, repair, and commissioning activities.
• Proven experience in high-risk lifting operations, including lift planning, rigging coordination, crane operations interfaces, and control of exclusion zones.
• Valid Crane Appointed Person (CAP) qualification or equivalent recognized lifting-management certification.
• Strong knowledge of lifting plans, lift studies, rigging practices, crane capacities, lifting accessories, and relevant lifting regulations.
• Experience in BESS projects, particularly the lifting and installation of battery containers, electrical skids, transformers, inverters, or related equipment, is highly desirable.
• Excellent understanding of safe lifting practices, high-risk work controls, rigging principles, and crane coordination.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, lifting plans, method statements, risk assessments, and technical specifications.
• Sound mechanical troubleshooting, planning, and problem-solving skills.
