Position Objective

The Deputy Construction Manager is responsible for supporting the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, commercial control, and delivery of the solar farm and battery project in Culcairn, NSW. This role plays a key part in ensuring that project works are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual, quality, environmental, and WHS requirements.

The position provides leadership support across construction planning, budget management, contract administration, subcontractor coordination, progress reporting, and project execution. The Deputy Construction Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders, subcontractors, consultants, and the client to achieve successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Construction Planning and Delivery
  • Support the Project Manager in the planning and coordination of construction activities.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project delivery plans, work sequences, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor progress against the project schedule and identify risks, delays, and constraints.
  • Coordinate with site teams and subcontractors to ensure efficient delivery of works.
  • Contribute to the resolution of construction and delivery issues as they arise.

 

2. Budget and Commercial Management

  • Assist with monitoring project expenditure against approved budgets and forecasts.
  • Support cost tracking, financial reporting, and identification of cost risks and opportunities.
  • Review commitments, variations, and progress claims in coordination with the project commercial team.
  • Assist in ensuring financial discipline and commercial performance across the project.
  • Contribute to the preparation of cost forecasts and reporting to senior management.

 

3. Contract and Subcontract Management

  • Support the administration and compliance of head contract and subcontract obligations.
  • Assist in managing contractor performance, scope adherence, and deliverables.
  • Review and coordinate contractual notices, claims, variations, and payment matters.
  • Support the timely resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
  • Ensure contract requirements are understood and applied across the project team.

 

4. Coordination and Stakeholder Management

  • Support effective coordination between project disciplines, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Project Manager regarding project status, issues, and risks.
  • Participate in project meetings, progress reviews, and action tracking.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Escalate matters requiring management intervention in a timely manner.

 

5. WHS, Quality, and Environmental Compliance

  • Support the implementation of project WHS, Quality, and Environmental management systems.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with legislative, contractual, and project requirements.
  • Assist in the identification, assessment, and control of project risks.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and compliance with site procedures and standards.
  • Support inspections, audits, defect close-out, and non-conformance management.

 

6. Reporting and Administration

  • Prepare and contribute to regular project reports including progress, cost, risk, and delivery status.
  • Maintain accurate project records, correspondence, and documentation.
  • Support document control, reporting, and administrative requirements as directed.
  • Assist with preparation of management updates, presentations, and project correspondence.
  • Ensure records are maintained in accordance with project systems and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in construction management or project delivery support on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of planning, budget control, and contract administration.
  • Experience supporting delivery of projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Sound knowledge of WHS, Quality, and Environmental requirements in construction.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project reporting tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and support senior leadership.

  • Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in construction or project delivery roles.
