Bouygues operates an MEP Unbundled strategy, reducing reliance on external suppliers to improve quality, safety, and project control. You will build and lead effective relationships with our MEP Consultants, BIM Coordinators and CDP Specialists to maximise value/opportunity and mitigate risk. You will be based in London and supporting design aspects of projects in London and the South East (including a Hospital project in Jersey- remotely) and cover various sectors Healthcare, Residential Regeneration, Schools and Data Centres
At Bouygues UK, we seek an Electrical Technical Manager to support our MEP Unbundled strategy. This approach will reduce our reliance on the external market supply chain, aiming to ensure better quality, safety, and control over project timelines.
You will provide overall design & engineering leadership/management for the business region(s), with responsibility for the delivery and technical authorisation of Electrical design information; from prequalification to completion with an emphasis on preconstruction (generally but not limited to RIBA Plan of Work Stages 3 to 6 / BSRIA BG6 Stages 3 to 6). Our MEP project values typically ranging from £5M - £130M. You will build and lead effective relationships with Clients, MEP Consultants, Digital Engineering Coordinators and Specialist CDP Designers to maximise value/opportunity and mitigate risk.
You will be based in London and supporting the design delivery of projects in London and the South East (including a Hospital project in Jersey- remotely)) and cover various sectors Healthcare, Residential, Schools, Health and Life Sciences and Data Centres.
Skills Knowledge & Experience
- Significant experience within a design consultancy or technical / design management role.
- Degree qualified in an Electrical or Building Services subject are preferrable, but we’d also consider people qualified by experience.
- Charted Engineer MCIBSE or MIET (or working towards / similar)
- Proven experience of design and technical responsibility on £50M+ projects or multiple projects.
- Robust understanding of project lifecycle, including RIBA and BSRIA works stages.
- Electrical Engineering subject matter expert with extensive knowledge of contemporary design approaches, technologies and solutions.
- Ability to communicate, inspire and motivate
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills
- Effective communication skills and stakeholder management, both internally and externally
Key Activities and Accountabilities
- Member of the MEP Unbundled Strategy Core team.
- Support MEP Technical Director in delivering the design and technical engineering management strategy.
- Management of customer and MEP and Digital Engineering Consultant relationships for allocated project.
- Line management for Electrical Technical Engineer and Junior Technical Engineers.
- Electrical technical authority for allocated project.
- Prepare and implement MEP consultant appointments.
- Responsible for Designing for Safety and CDM.
- Responsible for undertaking and managing granular design reviews.
- Monitor and manage MEP design progress.
- Technical ownership of all technical risks, opportunities, value engineering and value management.
- Provide technical coaching, mentoring and guidance to MEP Consultants, direct reports, Project Managers and Project Engineers.
- Technical authorisation of major packages, plant and equipment.
- Validate site installation and system operation against the design.
- Provide technical trouble-shooting support.
- Promote the BYUK policies and Key Values and function as role model in demonstrating behaviours.
