Bouygues UK has a fantastic opportunity available for a Senior Health and Safety Manager (Construction) to work on an exciting project in Exeter.

The project is a large scale (~£185M) and long term (3-year duration) student accommodation scheme, comprising of 6 new-build blocks and a refurbishment of an existing block. 

 

Job Purpose and Scope:

To set and drive the businesses Health and Safety strategy with the Head of Health and Safety.

 

Accountabilities and key tasks:

  • Ensure Health and Safety is a key priority on the project.
  • To develop a corporate culture and level of performance that delivers the requirements of our business policies and related objectives.
  • To develop and ensure the effective implementation of business H&S improvement stages.
  • To develop the management system to a standard that meets legal compliance and, SO14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007, including processes that create ongoing continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with external third party management system certification bodies, ensuring an ongoing good relationship and the best cost effective solutions re: certifications.
  • Establish and maintain arrangements for the business to be kept up to date with changes in legislation and best practise.
  • Ensure continued commitment to develop as a professional in the fields of H&S.
  • Report to the regional management team on our performance regards H&S.
  • Liaise with relevant enforcement authorities regarding any legal matters related to compliance.
  • Manage resource to a competent standard and control allocated budgets to ensure our financial targets are achieved.
  • Ensure audits are carried out within the business to ensure standards are compliant and reports to Excom are produced.
  • Ensure H&S performance data is recorded, measured and evaluated with reports issued to the business.
  • Ensure accidents/incidents/defects are investigated and bulletins issued to ensure lessons are learned.
  • Ensure the annual management review is carried out with reports issued to both the regional leadership team and the Head of Health and Safety.
  • Complete annual awards submissions as required by the business to ensure our market profile is highly visible.
  • Ensure the effective internal communications of health, safety, environmental performance and lessons to be learnt to promote a high level of awareness and constant learning.
  • Liaise with the Human Resources Department to ensure standards of competence for staff are identified and training programmes put in place to achieve the required standards.
  • Liaise with Head of Procurement and supply chain to ensure arrangements are in place to ensure suppliers are deemed competent for use.
  • Liaise with the Legal Department in regard to the management of SHE related claims being made against the business.
  • Liaise with all relevant departments with regards to health related policy formulation, initiatives and management arrangements.

 

About You:

 

Essential:

  • Previous H&S experience within the construction industry.
  • Results driven with good communication skills.

 

Desirable:

  • IOSH
  • NEBOSH
