Information at a Glance

Specialized in civil engineering and engineering structures, Bouygues Travaux Publics is one of the world leaders in the fields of land use planning and sustainable infrastructure construction. Bouygues Travaux Publics is committed to diversity and is open to all talents.

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) has an opportunity for a Groundwater Specialist to join the team on the Sizewell C Project—one of the most significant infrastructure programmes in the UK’s energy future. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in building a new 3.2-gigawatt power station on the Suffolk coast, which will generate low-carbon electricity for six million homes over the next sixty years.

As part of the CWA, you’ll work alongside Sizewell C and three leading construction companies—Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Laing O’Rourke. We’re a diverse and forward-thinking alliance bringing together knowledge from international projects to deliver world-class outcomes. Your expertise will directly support our environmental ambitions and compliance commitments at every stage of construction.

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Planning and overseeing dewatering, groundwater abstraction, treatment, and discharge activities across Sizewell C’s construction areas, including Sizewell Marshes SSSI.
  • Supporting the delivery teams with technical advice on hydrogeology, monitoring systems, and regulatory engagement.
  • Coordinating full compliance with environmental permits, water quality objectives, and pollution prevention requirements.
  • Managing the design, commissioning, and ongoing performance monitoring of groundwater treatment systems—ensuring correct chemical dosing, pH correction, and solids removal.
  • Monitoring key parameters such as Total Suspended Solids (TSS), pH, dissolved oxygen, iron, and oil/grease visibility, using real-time flow meters and telemetry systems.
  • Implementing contingency plans and corrective actions in the event of equipment failure or pollution incidents.
  • Ensuring rigorous sampling, traceable records, and robust reporting for Environment Agency compliance and internal EMS.
  • Liaising with contractors, the Environment Agency, and internal stakeholders to maintain effective communication and seamless operation.
  • Supporting the development and review of RAMS, CEMPs, and operating procedures.
  • Providing technical input for permit documentation, impact assessments, and close-out requirements.

Who are we looking for?

  • A degree-qualified professional in Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Water Management, or similar.
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing groundwater operations on major infrastructure or regulated construction projects.
  • Proven expertise in abstraction, treatment systems, discharge permit compliance, and pollution incident response.
  • Practical experience with flow and water quality monitoring equipment, automation, and telemetry/alarm systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Environment Agency permitting frameworks.
  • Skilled in technical report writing and interpreting complex data sets, including dashboard and cloud-based monitoring tools.
  • Ideally, experience with MCERTS, treatment plant technologies, British Standards for sampling, and working within SSSI or ecologically sensitive environments.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the UK’s clean energy landscape, working in a diverse team on a project of national importance. If you have the experience and drive to help us deliver on our environmental goals and regulatory standards, we want to hear from you.
