The Civil Works Alliance - Sizewell C

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) are recruiting for a pivotal role as we embark on one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the UK: the construction of Sizewell C. This new 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station will power around 6 million homes with clean, reliable energy for at least the next 60 years, making your contribution both meaningful and lasting.

As part of our Emergency Planning team, you’ll help ensure that our operations are not only compliant but set the standard in safety across one of the most complex construction environments in the country. You will work closely with our partners – including Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Laing O’Rourke – bringing together diverse expertise to deliver excellence for Sizewell C.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the HSW Fire and Emergency Planning Lead with fire safety and emergency planning compliance across the Sizewell C site
  • Develop, implement, and maintain emergency planning strategies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements and project needs
  • Drive the implementation of the CWA Emergency Planning Management System and ensure assurance processes are robust
  • Coordinate emergency drills and exercises, and ensure lessons learned are captured, shared and acted upon
  • Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, emergency services, and regulatory bodies to ensure best-in-class emergency preparedness
  • Provide expert advice and practical guidance during audits, inspections, and stakeholder meetings
  • Monitor compliance, report on key performance metrics, and contribute to continuous improvement in emergency response capabilities
  • Write comprehensive Rescue Plans and coordinate exercises to ensure clear understanding across all stakeholder groups

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong understanding of UK emergency planning legislation and guidance
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing emergency rescue plans within high-risk or complex environments
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and influence across all operational levels
  • Demonstrable track record of promoting a positive safety culture and providing constructive feedback
  • Knowledge of UK Health and Safety Legislation, supported by NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
  • Experience with health and safety management systems and report preparation
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Managers and Professionals competence

Desirable:

  • Emergency Planning Certification
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with strong analytical skills
