Temporary Works Coordinator – Sizewell C
Sizewell C is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure and energy projects. The programme will deliver a new 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station in Suffolk, providing reliable low-carbon electricity for approximately six million homes and supporting the UK’s long-term energy security.
We are looking for an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), supporting the delivery of the Marine and Tunnels Section at Sizewell C.
This role will be instrumental in ensuring that all temporary works activities are properly planned, designed, coordinated, checked and implemented in accordance with project requirements, relevant standards and established temporary works procedures.
Working closely with construction delivery teams, engineering, temporary works designers, the client and other project stakeholders, you will oversee the temporary works process from initial identification and design through to construction, inspection, loading, maintenance and removal.
A particular focus will be placed on marine and offshore construction activities, requiring a strong understanding of temporary works associated with complex marine operations, offshore environments and lifting activities.
You will play a key role in ensuring that temporary works solutions are technically appropriate, properly controlled and suitable for the specific conditions in which they will be used, supporting the safe and efficient execution of construction activities.
This is an opportunity to take on a key technical coordination role within a major national infrastructure programme, contributing to the safe delivery of complex marine, tunnelling and civil engineering works.
The Role
As Temporary Works Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the temporary works process across the Marine and Tunnels Section, ensuring that all temporary works are appropriately designed, reviewed, approved, constructed, inspected and maintained throughout their lifecycle.
You will act as a key interface between construction teams, temporary works designers, engineering functions, the client and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring that temporary works requirements are identified early and effectively integrated into construction planning and execution.
Working closely with the client’s Temporary Works team, you will ensure that project procedures, approval requirements and certification processes are understood and consistently followed.
A key part of the role will involve managing the Temporary Works Schedule, coordinating design briefs, monitoring design development and ensuring that temporary works designs are completed, checked and issued in accordance with programme requirements.
You will also oversee the implementation of temporary works on site, ensuring that construction activities are undertaken in accordance with approved-for-construction drawings, agreed methodologies and relevant inspection requirements.
Given the nature of the Marine and Tunnels Section, the role will require particular attention to offshore temporary works, lifting operations, marine interfaces, structural stability and temporary arrangements associated with complex construction activities.
You will ensure that appropriate inspection regimes, hold points and control measures are established, particularly where temporary works have implications for public safety, nuclear safety, permanent works or other construction activities.
The role requires strong technical judgement, practical construction experience and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders to ensure that temporary works are managed safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project's governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate all parties involved in the identification, design, checking, approval, construction, inspection and removal of temporary works;
Act as the principal coordination point for temporary works activities within the Marine and Tunnels Section, ensuring that responsibilities and interfaces are clearly defined;
Liaise with the client’s Temporary Works team to establish whether proposed temporary works schemes may affect public safety, nuclear safety, permanent works or other construction activities, and determine the appropriate approval and certification requirements;
Work closely with the client and relevant project stakeholders to ensure that temporary works procedures, technical requirements and governance arrangements are understood and consistently implemented;
Develop, maintain and periodically update the Temporary Works Schedule, ensuring that all relevant information, design status, approvals, construction activities and inspection requirements are accurately recorded;
Regularly review the Temporary Works Schedule with Temporary Works Designers (TWDs), Project Leads and construction teams to ensure that design and delivery requirements remain aligned with the construction programme;
Ensure that adequate temporary works designs are undertaken for all relevant schemes, taking into account the intended use, loading conditions, construction methodology and site-specific constraints;
Assess and supervise the competence of Temporary Works Supervisors (TWSs), working with the Project Lead to ensure that appropriate levels of supervision and technical capability are maintained;
Prepare and review temporary works design briefs to ensure that they are complete, technically adequate and clearly identify all applicable codes, standards, design criteria and project-specific requirements, particularly those associated with marine and offshore construction;
Ensure that offshore working requirements, lifting considerations, environmental conditions and relevant marine engineering constraints are appropriately addressed within temporary works design briefs;
Coordinate temporary works design, independent checking and construction activities with the overall construction programme, ensuring that sufficient time is allocated for design development, review, approval and implementation;
Monitor the progress of temporary works designs and ensure that completed design deliverables are received from the Temporary Works Designer within the required programme deadlines;
Verify that temporary works designs comply with the approved design brief and adequately identify residual risks, limitations, assumptions and requirements for safe implementation;
Coordinate and manage design changes, ensuring that any proposed modifications are reviewed and agreed with the Temporary Works Designer and that the appropriate technical approvals are obtained before implementation;
Ensure that Temporary Works Design Check Confirmation and Approval forms are completed and issued in accordance with project procedures;
Ensure that approved temporary works designs and associated documentation are formally communicated to construction teams, engineering functions, the client and all other relevant stakeholders;
Verify that temporary works construction is undertaken strictly in accordance with drawings and documentation issued for construction, ensuring that superseded or unapproved information is not used;
Review construction method statements to ensure that the requirements of both temporary and permanent works designs are properly incorporated, including loading arrangements, foundation capacities, structural integrity, stability requirements and inspection hold points;
Verify that materials, components and equipment used for temporary works are appropriate for their intended purpose, with particular attention to the suitability, condition and certification of reused materials and equipment;
Review and coordinate preparations for temporary work structures and marine installations, including sea fastenings and other temporary arrangements, ensuring that the required checks and approvals are completed before loading operations proceed;
Coordinate and undertake inspections of temporary works prior to loading and unloading operations, ensuring that structures and associated arrangements are suitable and safe for the intended activities;
Ensure that personnel delegated to undertake temporary works inspections, including Temporary Works Supervisors, have the appropriate competence, experience and understanding of their responsibilities;
Develop and agree inspection requirements and hold points with site teams, ensuring that critical activities cannot proceed until the required inspections and authorisations have been completed;
Monitor the condition and performance of erected temporary works throughout their operational life, ensuring that appropriate maintenance, monitoring and inspection arrangements remain in place;
Ensure that any defects, deviations, damage or changes affecting temporary works are promptly reported, assessed and addressed before activities continue;
Coordinate with construction and engineering teams to ensure that temporary works arrangements remain compatible with permanent works requirements and the wider construction sequence;
Identify and manage temporary works risks, technical constraints and interfaces, implementing appropriate mitigation measures to protect personnel, assets, nuclear safety and programme delivery;
Maintain appropriate temporary works records, design documentation, approval certificates, inspection reports and other governance information to provide clear traceability throughout the temporary works lifecycle;
Conduct Lessons Learned and Learning from Experience reviews following the use of significant temporary works elements, capturing findings and recommendations to improve future designs, construction methodologies and project delivery; and
Promote a strong temporary works management culture, ensuring that all activities are planned, controlled and delivered in accordance with project procedures, applicable legislation and recognised industry best practice.
