Project

The Lower Thames Crossing is one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes, creating a new connection between Kent and Essex through the country's longest road tunnel.

Working within a collaborative alliance, the project involves major enabling works, specialist geotechnical engineering, deep foundations, soil mixing and large-scale civil engineering activities. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure scheme while working alongside industry-leading engineering and construction professionals.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Method Engineer to join our growing engineering team supporting the delivery of the Lower Thames Crossing.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will develop practical construction methodologies, work sequences and technical solutions for specialist ground engineering and foundation works. Working closely with both tender and project delivery teams, you will review design information, prepare method drawings, assess construction productivity and equipment requirements, and support project mobilisation through to early construction.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background who enjoys solving complex construction challenges and developing innovative, buildable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Methodology & Technical Delivery

  • Develop construction methodologies, work sequences and technical solutions for ground engineering and specialist foundation works.
  • Review design drawings, specifications and technical documentation to produce practical construction solutions.
  • Prepare method statements, construction sequences, site layouts and supporting technical documentation.
  • Assess buildability, site constraints, construction interfaces and project risks.
  • Support project teams by providing technical advice throughout mobilisation and construction.
  • Assist in resolving technical and operational challenges as site conditions evolve.

Engineering Support

  • Support tender teams with technical proposals, productivity studies and construction planning.
  • Assist with the selection of suitable plant, equipment and construction systems.
  • Contribute to value engineering initiatives and continuous improvement across the project.
  • Capture lessons learned to improve future project delivery.

Digital Engineering & Innovation

  • Support the implementation of digital engineering initiatives across the project.
  • Prepare BIM models, digital construction information, dashboards and performance reports where required.
  • Ensure project data is structured and maintained in accordance with company standards.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure methodologies and technical documentation comply with project specifications, relevant standards and company procedures.
  • Support safe, efficient and high-quality project delivery through robust engineering planning.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience

  • 5–8 years' experience within ground engineering, geotechnical construction or specialist foundations.
  • Experience delivering diaphragm walls, piling, ground improvement, soil mixing or similar specialist foundation techniques.
  • Experience supporting both tender and live project delivery teams.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, productivity and plant selection.
  • Previous site experience with the ability to develop practical, buildable engineering solutions.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, calculations, specifications and technical reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using BIM processes and BIM-related software.
  • Competent using CAD or similar engineering drawing software.
  • Experience with Power BI or other data visualisation tools is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of temporary works and construction risk management is desirable.

Personal Attributes

  • Practical, technically minded and solutions focused.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of technical quality.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively across design, tender and project delivery teams.
  • Willing to travel and work on project sites during mobilisation and construction activities.
