Exciting times are ahead of us at Bouygues UK as we look to grow and develop our Design team. We are seeking a Senior Design Manager to join us in the UK, working on various new build projects in the UK in the London and Southeast. The role will include Preconstruction and Production stages. We have a strong pipeline of projects ahead of us.
Job Purpose & Scope:
You will be responsible to lead/manage the design process to develop a design which is compliant with all contractual requirements, using cost-effective methods. Your involvement will include that information will be fully coordinated to deliver the project on time within budget and to meet the clients’ requirements.
Overall responsibility for:
Project Design Management
Management of the Design Consultants
Liaison between the Client, Design Consultants, and project staff
Liaison with Site Manager for the development of design packages and procurement strategies
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant Construction or Architecture qualification
- Previous main contractor experience
- Expert understanding of the Design & Build process
- Excellent knowledge of design process, at commercial and construction design stages
- Understands the RIBA plan of work
- Strong in-depth technical knowledge
- Good knowledge of planning process
- Proven experience of managing design on numerous projects i.e. Residential, Schools, Hospitals, Student accommodation
- Working knowledge of building regulations
Accountabilities & Key Tasks:
- Manage and lead the design process across preconstruction and construction phases
- Oversee design consultants, ensuring compliance, buildability, and efficiency in all designs
- Act as the main liaison between client, consultants, project teams, and site management
- Coordinate the preparation, review, and sign-off of all design documentation
- Ensure flow and control of design information, including compliance with Document Management Procedures
- Support the commercial and procurement teams in developing design packages and strategies
- Represent Bouygues UK at meetings with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies
- Oversee design input to support environmental certifications (e.g., BREEAM)
- Contribute to risk management and design quality reviews at key stages
- Facilitate design handovers between preconstruction and site teams
