This is a strategic commercial role centred on expanding VSL’s presence across multiple sectors including infrastructure, defence, utilities, ports, and other asset-intensive industries.
Main job purpose:
Assist in the management of Major Equipment such Launching Gantries, Form Travellers, Lifting Frames, Casting Cells and similar Major Equipment throughout the entire life-cycle of the equipment
Job responsibilities:
ORGANISATION
Provide input for the administration and the tracking of ME throughout their life-cycle.
- Implement and monitor the use of the specific equipment management software CMMS, or similar on all sites where ME is used.
- Review the issues that arise and provide support, as required, to the local equipment teams to resolve the issues.
- Support site team in the setting up of the project equipment workshop.
CONCEPT, DESIGN AND PROCUREMENT
- Participate in the review of the concept design of ME provided by the design teams.
- Provide inputs for the specifications and procurement of mechanical, electrical and electronic components for the ME.
COMMISSIONING OF EQUIPMENT
- Brief, guide and monitor the commissioning process, in conjunction with the Project Team. This includes delivery, assembly, mechanical and electrical installation, Load Test and sign-off prior to operation. This also includes providing support to Project Teams to ensure that the appropriate resources are in place, with the appropriate level of skill and experience, to carry out the assembly and commissioning works.
- Act as Commissioning Superintendent when required, for the commissioning of ME.
- Support the Project Team with review of the equipment performance. If necessary, participate in work-shop process between Technical Centres, the Project Team and other appropriate parties to work towards improvements with respect to methods, design modifications and/or operation techniques.
- In such cases where equipment modifications are deemed necessary, monitor the process of modification through design, fabrication and site installation to ensure the modifications are carried out in a timely manner, in accordance with modified design, that the modifications are well tracked and documented, and all details are placed in the equipment file.
- Monitoring of the equipment maintenance system and regime during operation of the ME. Ensuring that project teams have appropriate resources in place to carry out the maintenance as per the maintenance system and regime.
TRAINING
- Participate in the Equipment Operator training process in conjunction with the Design team, the Project team, and the Commissioning Superintendent to ensure that the members of the Project Teams directly responsible for the operation of the ME are given the appropriate training and certification to carry out their duties.
- Train, supervise and test the competency of the Project team in the correct maintenance of all the components of the ME, including keeping track of the maintenance carried out using digital checklists.
DEMOB AND AFTER USE
- With the support of the Project Team, manage the demobilisation and storage process for ME. This includes review, approval and implementation of a Storage Plan that nominates a suitable storage location, layout, support details, weather protection, on-going maintenance regime, and security measures to be in place. A report documenting the demobilisation and storage of the ME is to be compiled and placed in the Equipment File for future reference.
- On-going monitoring of ME in storage to ensure that the Storage Plan is being followed appropriately, with on-going maintenance, weather proofing and security in place at the required standard.
- Co-ordination of packing and mobilisation of ME to new projects when the time arises.
